Bishop Verdell Jones, Sr.
Suffragan Bishop Verdell Jones, Sr. , the son of a Baptist minister, is a native of Elbert County Georgia and a product of the Georgia Public School System, where he graduated from Blackwell Memorial High School in 1956, as valedictorian of his class. He attended Clark College in Atlanta, GA and Illinois Commercial College and has a degree in Business Administration and Higher Accounting. He served eight and a half years in the US Air Force with a tour of duty in Okinawa. After over 20 years of service with the Illinois Department of Revenue, he retired as Deputy Regional Administrator.
He was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1963 in Chicago, Illinois and was called into the ministry in 1969. As a young minister he served as Financial Secretary, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Assistant Pastor and Pastor of Greater Holy Temple in Urbana, IL. He founded and pastored Deliverance Temple Apostolic Church in Champaign, IL for 15 years. This church is now part of the PCAF Illinois Council.
In Louisville, KY he served under Bishop Michael Ford, Sr. in various capacities: Sunday Schoolteacher, Chairman of the Brotherhood, and Director of Evangelistic Outreach. Under the leadership of Bishop Ford,in 1999, he founded Christ Temple Apostolic Church of Paris, KY.,and was later appointed to the position of Suffragan Bishop with the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith. He served as Chairman of the Tri-State Council Pastors Alliance for nine years. After establishing the church in Paris, KY, he organized the Tri-City Fellowship in central Kentucky to support and encourage start up churches; he also serves as Director of the PCAF Suffragan Bishops’ Board.
He is a recent published author of a book entitled – When You Feel LIKE GIVING UP DON’T!!!
He and his lovely wife, Cecelia, enjoy the love of 5 sons, five grandsons, five granddaughters, and one great grandson.
